the rythym or beat!!

Through the years in rap music appear a new component on it called beat that is composed by the beatmaker. The beat is a rythmic musical background that is made with computers, MPC's and some computer softwares that produced sounds just like pianos, guitars and others instruments. These  beats are made to accompained the lyric of the Mc in a rap music song. The person who is in charge to create these beats are the beatmakers. The beatmakers using all the elements mentioned before not only made the beats, they are also rasponsible of produce the complete disc of the MC's. Actually, today is normal that the beatmakers make disc of his or her beats without MC's and Dj's. Finally, they are part of a specific group or sometimes some beatmakers work for their own, and when some singer needs them they sold their beats or the singer hire them to produce their disc.

Here goes a video of a Chilean beatmaker and producer called Victor, also known as "Frainstrumentos":

The poetry has to be written!

Well as I said before rap music lyrics are written by MC's, they are who wrote this poetry. The term MC is the abbreviation of the words Master of ceremony, although some experts say that this abbreviation comes from the words Microphone controller.  MC is the nickname that was originally applied to persons whose occupation was to entertain the crowds at parties where the music was spun by Dj's. Today Mc is used to refers to the people who write the lyrics of the rap music, they are "the poets who write this kind of peotry". At first they were responsible for animate the parties, nowadays they express their feelings what they think about the social, politic and economic problems, etc. Actually,  now they are not just entertainers on parties, they also are singers, because they not only made these lyrics a capella, but also they sing them. How I mentioned it before there are two ways of express the lyrics, the first one is when the lyric is accompained by the dj and the beat made by the beatmaker. The second one is a capella, this way of express the feelings and thoughts it is called freestyle. freestyle is when the MC express these ideas in a improvised way.

Here is a freestyle of two MC's and a group from Chile:

MC's: Guerrillerokulto, Subverso.

Group: Mutantestyle.

The rap music!!

Rap is the music from the hip-hop culture and is one of the four pillars of it, that is why rap music is also metonymically and in a inaccurate way called hip-hop. Rap is a type of rythmic recitation of rhymes, pun or poetry, although it can be interpreted a cappella, rap is usually accompanied by a rhytmic musical background known as beat. Rap music is composed by three different people that are called Mc, Dj and Beatmaker. First, the beat is done by the beatmaker using a computer and other instruments like MPC's and softwares. At the beigining the beatmakers do not exits, but through the years an with the new technologies they appear to improve the quality of this music. Second, the lyric is prepare for the mc, who writes about his or her life, thoughts, ideals, social criticism or only what he or she feels. Finally Dj's are who make scratches that are add to the beat and lyric when the song is produced and it is obtain the final version of the whole song. Also the Dj's are who accompained the mc's during a concert, they are on charge of putting play to the music and made the scratches on live. When this music started was only made by the mc who was in charge of singing the song and the dj just was responsible for putting the music play. And how was mentioned before the beatmakers appears through the years.

here is chilean rap song called "Derechos reservados".

Mc's: Mantoi, Matiah Chinaski and Terry "el terrible".

Beatmaker and producer: Fenbeats.

The art is also present!!

The pictorial art also appears in the hip-hop culture and it is called Graffiti. It is called graffiti to various forms of inscription or painting, usually on street furniture. In the language of hip-hop graffiti is the result of paiting texts on walls in a freely, creative and unlimited way. Its purpose is to express and disseminate thoughts, feelings, ideals and social criticisms where it essence is to change and evolve looking for being a visual attractive and with a high impact. In this way it try to be a revolutionary and rebellious urban movement, specially for the hip-hop culture where it started. At the begining graffiti was usually done spontaneously, fast and in public places, but nowadays the graffiti can be done in complete walls of a building and can take days or weeks to finish them. The people who do this kind of art are called graffiti writers. If you look a graffiti when you are walking for the street you are going to notice that the person who made this piece of art never sign with his or her real name. These people use a tag to sign the graffiti. The tag is a nickname of the graffiti writers with the idea of staying anonymous because graffiti is illegal. So, to leave their own names would be a mistake because of the police could take them to jail. Graffiti have had a great evolution from the begining because of the quality of the paintings and techniques have improved and there also exists new ones.

"12 brillos crew" is a group of graffiti writers from Chile and here goes a video with a graffiti done on "planeta graff 2011" (Santiago, Chile)

Let's dance!!!

Another important element of the Hip- hop culture is the dance and it is called B- boying or breakdance. The term 'Break Dance' was used by the media to the dance known as B-boying, as stated a significant number of dancers in this culture. It is thought that this name had commercial reasons, and that is why some "B-boys" prefer to keep calling the dance in its original way. It is an urban dance that brings other dances together such as Charleston, salsa, matial arts like capoeira and movements of artistic gymnastic. This dance emerged in Afro-American communities in New York's neighborhoods as the Bronx and Brooklyn in the 70's. But it achieved a higher recognition in the 80's, thanks to the influence of artists like James Brown, and movies like Breakin' and the freshest kids who spread the movement towards European countries. The people who perform this dance are called b-boy or b-girl, also called fly girl. There is a marked difference between a b-boy and a breaker: the first dances for purely cultural reasons and contribute new elements, innovating and bringing the level of difficulty to new dimensions. on the other hand the breaker is the person who dances for fashion interest only and had not  conscious of hip-hop movement. Finally this type of dance have four kinds of movements called Top Rocking, Up-Rocking that are the movements made on the upper body. Footworks are the dance steps made on the floor with hands and feet. Powermoves are continuous movements which force, turns, balance and speed are applied. And the la last one are Freezes, movements in which the B-boy "freezes" for a moment at the rythm of the music.

This is the final battle video from Fever Seoul. Fever Seoul was an online b-boy battle organized by the Seoul City Government to spread, worldwide, an appreciation for the b-boying culture in Seoul:

Scratch

How I said before, one of the elements of hip- hop that it had had a great evolution through the years on this kind of music are the D'js. Hip- hop D-jing or turntablism, actually create this culture because  the precursor of hip-hop was Afrika Bambaataa one of the best hip-hop D'js of the world. D'js started these block parties on the blocks, they were on charge of animate and the music of this parties in the Bronx, U. S.. Scratch or turntablism starts with an origin story. Grand Wizard Theodore (the "Thomas Edison of the movement") recalls the day, way back in 1975, when his grandmother told him to turn down the music he was making in front of his Bronx River Houses apartment. In order to hear her, he put his hand on the turntable, holding the record in place. As he moved his hand, slightly, a new sound rose up. And so, he smiles, scratching was born. Since then the turtablism had had an amazing development because of the technologies like computers, music studios, softwares, mixers and many other features that had helped to make the scratchings more precises and with a higher quality.

Here is a trailer of a doccumentary about this branch of hip-hop: Scratch

Chile representing!

Yes, that is right, Chile has a great variety of rap musicians. through the years the chilean rap it had a big evolution since the 90's when the rap music got to Chile. Rock band "LOS PRISIONEROS" between the years 1988-1989 was considered one of the first to break into the rap in the Latin American with the song "The four luchos". The evolution of this music, had been from the dj's, passing trough the producers or beatmakers and of course the increasing level of the mc's and their lirycs. Talking about the lirycs, the main topics are similar with the topics of United States rap, obviously they refer about social problems of Chile like the big inequalities between the rich peolpe and the poor peolpe, problems with the drugs, criticsm against politics and politicians, perosnal problems or every feeling that they want to express. Nowadays the Chilean rap is considerer one of the best on Latin America because of the whole production of the music, from the flow and content of the lirycs to the beats made  by producers or beatmakers. Finally the best of all it is the music is for free and concert are cheap or for free.

Here is a video of Chilean rap:

Singer: Portavoz
Song: El otro Chile ft. Staylok (The other Chile)
Album: Escribo Rap con R de Revolución (I wrote Rap with R of Revolution)

The begining!

Like everything in this world, all it has a beginning. So, please join me and let's see what was the beginning of  the rap music. It is one of the four pillars of hip hop culture (music, dance, dj's and art), that is why sometimes it is called in a wrong way hip hop music. This type of music is a kind of rhythmic recitation, word games and poetry emerged in the mid-twentieth century between the black community in the United States and it was a way to protest against acts of racism and inequalities between black and white people. Even though this music can be interpreted a capella, rap is usually accompanied by a rhythmic background music known as beat. Rap performers are the MC, abbreviation for "Master of Ceremonies". Actually at the beginning the Mc's were the show entertainers, while the Dj's put the music on, they encouraged the people to have a good time at parties on  the latin and afroamerican blocks or suburbs.

now a piece of rap music of a big artist: "Tupac Amaru Shakur" R.I.P.

Hi bloggers, I am going to start talking some things about me, I am a simply young man from Chile who does not like reggaeton, nor other types of music that appears on the radio because I think those kinds of music do not have much content on their lirycs or at least they are not of  my interest. Not only I like music, but also I like doing bodyboard mainly because I love being on the beach. Actually my perfect day on the weekend is when I get up early and I go to the beach to listen music while I am waiting with some friends for the waves, I love doing that!.
It is enough about me, now I will describe a bit my blog "HIP HOP LIKE CULTURE". As I told before I do not like the music from the radio or at least most of them. That is one of the reason why my favourite music is the Chilean rap and part of this blog it wiil be about it. Hip Hop like culture will be about the rap music in general. Not only the music will have a space on this blog, but also another branches of Hip Hop, like breakdance, the graffitis and Dj's.
